:. About Kehlet.org (In English)

My name is Peter Kehlet and I would like to tell you the story about the Kehlet and Heinesen family.

The Kehlet/Heinesen families consist of a mixture of two different nationalities:

The Kehlet family ( my father ) is Danish and their history can be verified back to the year 1350, they emigrated from Hessen, Germany

I have always wanted to know more about my family history, so my aunt gave me an e-mail adr. to her grandchild Torben B. Frederiksen, residing in Italy, as my aunt knew that genealogy research into the Kehlet family history had been made back in the 50´s. and that Torben had been working with the family history for the past 10 years.

I contacted Torben and suddenly a family tree dating back to the year 1350, containing over 1000 names with connections to the Kehlet family was now in my possession.

My uncle Knud Kehlet has been of great assistance to me in getting pictures, places, events and dates attached to the family tree.

When all the pictures has been scanned in it will be put out on the net with the new WIN-fam HTML based genealogical program.

The Heinesen family ( my mother ) is from Faroe Islands.

I am still working on this part of the family history using books written by Sonni Jacobsen and Petur Kruse , that deal with the inhabitants of Sørvåg (Soervagur) e.g. who lived in the different houses and who was buried in the village.

I have reached the year 1160.

One day a faroe genealogist Göran Wennerstrøm read my home page and asked about the books I had mentioned.

I had a look at his home page and saw many faroe names in a big family tree data base that might have connections to my faroe family

I wrote back to him and he offered me a big GEDCOM file in which I could search further.

I spent the whole day and night comparing information from the GEDCOM file and the above mentioned books. I found the connection I needed. It was, through a collateral branch and not 100% updated.

I have since had this information further verified by going through disc's, my father brought home from the baker in Soervaeg, Faroe Islands. His research goes back to the time when DOS genealogical programs were the only programs available.

My children now have grandparents dating back 25 generations. We are now in the year 1160.

Since then I have joined DIS-Denmark (DIS=data in genealogic) which has been of great use to me. I use Brother's  Keeper in keeping track of the family members.

Presently there are 1844 people in the data base.

My task now is getting the posterity updated. My father and I will do that together.

My aim is to burn a CD-rom with the family tree on it, so that members of the family can share it with me.

To make the family tree more alive and interesting I have added pictures of family members.

Sincerely  Peter Kehlet
